Better By You, Better Than Me (Reno, Nevada — December, 1985)
“This work is informed by my research into the phenomenon of 'backwards-masking.' It was composed using samples from the song Better By You, Better Than Me by Judas Priest, which was used as evidence in a case against the band when two Nevada youths committed suicide after listening to their music. Supposedly, if played backwards, the lyrics of the song can be heard to say, "Do it," which, it was argued, had a subliminal influence on the actions of the two young men. My reworking of the song is an invocation of this phenomenon, and an exploration of the emotional and psychological content of the source material in relation to these events.” — David Court.
